Outdoor recreation:
 Outdoor recreation is an important activity; the demand of outdoor recreation indicates the population increase, rising incomes, growing mobility and more leisure time. There are different patterns of outdoor recreations, such as city squares, parks, sports facilities, gardens open space for residential areas, and outdoor areas for camping and hiking.

Recreation represents any rational human activity that results in a pleasurable response, at any time, place or circumstances with attendant enriching physical, intellectual or emotional benefits.
Recreational spaces are public space and have been regarded as an integral part of communities, serves as a location for people to meet, relax, and exchange ideas. It is also a place where anyone can come without paying an entrance or other fee. Recreational spaces can refresh one’s mind or body after work through activity that amuses or stimulates or play. It can provide mental relief through spaces, environment and surroundings.
Usage of recreations:
Positions concerned with planning, organizing, and coordinating recreation programs and activities
are designated for different groups of users.
1.      Most of the recreational areas are proposed for the healthy and community wellbeing.
2.      For military personnel, patients in hospitals and domiciliary, and other designated groups, such positions are concerned primarily with programs oriented to sports, games, crafts, etc., at community centers, at service clubs, or for handicapped groups.
3.      In addition, some outdoor recreations are planned for landscaping or aesthetical use. For example, the ground forms and structures.
4.      Positions involving other work relevant to outdoor recreations are aimed at satisfy the professional competence in particular field such as wildlife biology, forestry, economics, civil engineering, urban planning, or soil conservation.
Recreation resources:
The land, water, mountains, forests, wildlife, and other outdoor elements which are useful for recreational purposes are considered to be recreation resources.
Role of planners:
outdoor recreation planners are concerned with developing and protecting natural resources to assure recreational opportunities for the general public.
Outdoor recreation planners insure that outdoor recreation needs are met for people in both urban and rural areas.
At the same time, they seek to protect and enhance the scenic and aesthetic quality of the physical environment in which the people live. This concern for the outdoor environment includes open space and other public land in urban areas.
The outdoor recreation planner aims to assure opportunities for creative use of leisure time outdoors.
